Music playlist week #10
Welcome to Damson's weekly feature.
Each week we share 10 great tracks with you.
Heart - Barracuda
If anybody watched the fantastic "Captain Marvel" they are sure to be familiar with this classic from prolific classic rock band, "Heart". This was voted as number 41 in the all-time classic rock songs in The Rolling Stone, but in our opinion should be much higher.
Childish Gambino - Redbone
Donald Glover is incredibly talented. That's a given. This is probably the most accessible and popular track he's ever released, and some would say his greatest. Rapper, singer, comedian, actor, this guy can do absolutely anything and it will be amazing.
X-Press 2 feat. David Byrne - Lazy
David Byrne has to have one of the greatest voices in music. Robotic, a little melancholic but always listenable even when singing some of him former band, Talking Heads, more obscure vocals. Without his vocals, this track would probably be quite un-remarkable.
LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean
A lengthy, quiet introduction leads into an incredibly funky and meaty synth beat from this opening track from LCD Soundsystem's third album. For added effect, watch this unofficial video accompaniment. Absolutely hilarious.
David Bowie - Cat People (Putting Out Fire)
We really miss Bowie. How can you not? The man was a genius of songwriting, showmanship and musicianship. There will never be anyone else like him. There are so many classic tracks to choose from but we went for this slightly lesser-known great.
Quasamodo - Scream for Daddy
If you're looking for a funky summertime classic in the vein of early Jamiroquai (minus the vocals), then this is for you. As good as it is, DO NOT listen to it around children. You have been warned. Filthy.
Machine Gun Kelly & YUNGBLUD - I Think I'm OKAY
Fresh off a really impressive turn portraying Tommy Lee in Netflix's "The Dirt", MGK teamed up with YUNGBLUD and Travis Barker to release this absolute thumper of a track. Brings back memories of early noughties pop-punk, which is never a bad thing.
Slipknot - Unsainted
It's safe to say Slipknot aren't to everyone's taste (especially at Damson HQ) but you can't deny that this single from their latest chart-topping album is seriously catchy. When Corey Taylor sings, he REALLY sings. What a voice. What a frontman.
Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla
You'll struggle to find a better live band than Icelandic geniuses, Sigur Ros. You'll have definitely heard this before, as it's been used in numerous commercials and documentaries. It's got to be one of the most beautiful tracks ever written.
Steve Miller Band - Fly Like An Eagle
This week's slightly left-field selection comes from Steve Miller Band. Slow, soulful, and more importantly, funky as hell. The title track from the 1976 album is one of the most perfect psychedelic blues songs ever released.
